About MasakiConnect
MasakiConnect is a WhatsApp-based smart-neighbourhood hub for the Msasani Peninsula in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It turns the messaging app residents already use into a single, accountable channel for civic problems — no new app, no sign-up form.
Residents report power outages, water-supply problems, uncollected waste, road damage, safety concerns and traffic issues. Every report becomes a tracked ticket with a reference number, an acknowledgement deadline, and live status updates pushed back over WhatsApp until it is resolved.
Alongside reporting, MasakiConnect sends verified, zone-targeted alerts (so you only hear about your own neighbourhood), hosts a public issues board where the community can see and comment on what has been reported, and runs a searchable directory of trusted local businesses.
The service covers three neighbourhoods — Masaki, Msasani and Oyster Bay — and works in English, Swahili and Simplified Chinese, reflecting the peninsula’s residents.
